The Institute of Society and Globalisation at Roskilde University invites applications for a number of posts as associate professor or assistant professor within the field of ‘Global Studies’.

The posts are to be filled no later than August 1, 2011. Global Studies started as a separate English language teaching program on September 1, 2008. The program covers three broad themes: ‘Global politics and global governance, ‘Global civil society and social movements’ and ‘Global political economy’. Job responsibilities for both posts include conducting research within the thematic research areas described in the Research Strategy Plan 2009-2012. Also, responsibilities include teaching within the Global Studies program and one of the other programs of the Institute plus teaching on the social science bachelor program of the university. The applicant must contribute to the continuing development of cross-disciplinary courses and research in the Institute.

The Institute of Society and Globalisation has adopted a Strategy Plan 2009-2012 for research http://www.ruc.dk/isg/. The following four themes are given special emphasis in the plan:
- Changing societies: Citizenship, participation, civil society and welfare
- Politics, governance and democracy
- Globalization, regionalization and local responses
- Global/local development challenges

The posts will be located within the above themes. Thus, applicants are asked to describe how they see their own research plans and their publication record in relation to their potential contributions within the above-mentioned research themes. Potential applicants are encouraged to consult the Institute’s homepage for further information on the research themes and on the department’s existing research groups and centres.

Applicants with an interest and experience in project-based teaching and teaching in an interdisciplinary environment, and sympathetic towards teaching within several disciplines will be preferred.

The online application should include curriculum vitae, and an application letter containing information about relevant teaching experience, and a publication list specifying publications that are considered to be particularly relevant for the job. Applications for the position at the level of associate professor can attach up to ten publications. Applicants for a position as assistant professor are allowed to attach up to 5 publications.The assessment committee may ask for material not included here for candidates making the shortlist, which the applicant will then be required to submit.

Salary and employment conditions will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

Successful candidates who do not speak Danish (or possibly Swedish or Norwegian) will be requested to acquire the necessary skills in Danish within the first two years of service, so as to ensure that they can participate satisfactorily in teaching activities as well as in academic and administrative activities at the University. At the time of appointment, successful candidates must have successfully mastered English for academic purposes.
